Individuals who have yet to file their 2011 tax return will be pleased to hear that due to strike action by HM Revenue & Customs' staff, the deadline for submitting electronic tax returns has been extended to the 2 February 2012.
With the fixed £100 late filing penalty now being due even where no unpaid tax liabilities arise, those individuals who have left filing their return to the last moment will now benefit from a two day extension.
More than 20,000 staff are taking part in what are being described as "lightening" walk-outs which started yesterday and are planned again for the 31 January. The dispute appears to centre around plans to outsource certain telephone services to third party organisations.
If you require any assistance with your 2011 tax return or any other tax matter then please do not hesitate to contact the Cobia team on 0845 226 0580.
